Some Korean Culture

On Friday I woke up sick. I could have predicted this since Ben was sick last week, but I thought I had outrun it. Nope. Unfortunately I was not that lucky. I went up to visit Ben on Saturday and the decision was made to drive into Seoul. Have you heard people say "Hindsight is 20/20?" Yeah, well, we should have taken the subway into the city. It took over 2 hours to go approximately 55 km. We could have ridden our bikes and gotten there faster. At one point on the way back, there were even rice cake vendors in the middle of the lanes selling rice cakes. Yep, it was that slow and people were buying them. To makes things even more frustrating, the palace we went to see was closed. After that fun 4+ hour roundtrip in traffic, we went to dinner with some of the people Ben work with and some of the Republic of Korean Air Force members Ben works with. It was not the typical restaurant that I was used to. We sat at a table in what seemed like the backyard of a house and we were the only party there. The food was really good. People were drinking soju (rice wine/liquor), quite a bit of soju actually. Ben and I tried it, but mostly drank water. After dinner there was a little karaoke singing and everyone had a good time. It was certainly a sight to see.
