Daejeon

I am not feeling well right now. I think it's a head cold, but whatever it is, it is not fun. Ben came to visit really late on Friday evening. We planned on going to Songnisan National Park, northeast of where I live. Saturday morning, we didn't get started until mid-morning. Well, when you have to rely on buses, that was a problem. We took a bus from Gunsan to Daejeon, and then were supposed to take a bus from Daejeon to Songinsan. Unfortunately it would have only gotten us there with 2 hours of daylight left. Ben had to get back early on Sunday because of some final exams he had to do, so we were left with a decision. Go onto Songnisan knowing we won't get to see everything we want to, stay in Daejeon or go back to Gunsan. We decided to stay in Daejeon. We checked into one of the many motels near the bus stations, it really wasn't that bad. We took a taxi to a park on the outskirts of the city. The taxi dropped us off at a observation point and we just hiked around after that using a map that wasn't so helpful, but that didn't stop Ben from looking at it all the time. :) We did see an old fortress, which was kind of cool. It, of course, was destroyed and rebuilt several times. A family of cats lived there. Here is a view of the park and the mountains around Daejeon.
We eventually found a way out of the park, but it was a little out there in the middle of nowhere. We just headed for the high rises and hoped we'd see a taxi. Thankfully we did. We took a taxi back to the bus station area. I wanted my favorite food for dinner, so we ate at Pizza Hut. It was Pizza Hut, but not like the ones back in the U.S. We ordered a Korean pizza. It was a potato pizza with little cheesy/sweet potato bites which we dipped in cheese. It was different, but good. The next day we went our separate ways, me back to Gunsan and Ben to Songtan. We'll thankfully get to see each other again on Christmas Eve.
