Buyeo
On the 16th we ventured north to Buyeo. We had originally planned on going south to Mokpo and the islands off the coast off the southwest coast, but it was raining, so we decided to go to Buyeo instead. Buyeo, like Gongju, was once the capital of the Baekje kingdom, in fact the last capital before it was destroyed by the Shilla forces. The rain tried to stop us, but we trudged on. We first went to the Buyeo National Museum, whose focus was mainly on items from the Baekje kingdom. We had some galbi/kalbi (rib meat) at a local restaurant and then looked at the exhibition hall of the Baekje royal tombs.
The rain was letting up a little bit so we decided to go Busosan park which had the remains of an old fortress. In the park there was Nakhwaam in honor of those who chose death over being conquered when the Shilla forces attacked.
I can't imagine throwing myself off a cliff to avoid capture, but that is what they did. Before we left we visited a garden on the outskirts of Buyeo
and then headed back to Kunsan.
