Guam - drive around the south half of the island

Now that I'm back from my three week trip in the Pacific for work I'll have to update you on what little personal travel I got to do. My first stop was to the island of Guam. It really is out in the middle of no where. I flew from Dayton to Houston, Houston to Honolulu and then Honolulu to Guam. I had no idea it took over 7 hours to get from Hawaii to Guam, and unfortunately I had the same limited movie choices to Guam as I did to Hawaii. I didn't even know I was stopping in Honolulu until I was in Houston. It is the only time I've been to Hawaii and it doesn't count. Ben and I will have to go there sometime in the future and actually spend time there, not just see the airport. Some say Guam is the poor man's Hawaii. I feel like I've been to a lot of so called Hawaii like spots (Jeju island, Okinawa, Guam) but it's hard to compare it to Hawaii when I've actually never been there. Guam is a strange place. In the so called touristy area you have the high end shops (Prada, Gucci, etc) next to a strip mall with gun shops, strip clubs, and some Japanese restaurant. Besides the touristy area, the areas not covered in green vegetation are pretty poor. Guam is a small island, and it doesn't take very long to drive along the coast. The base in on the north side of the island, so one Saturday we took a half day and drive the southern part of the island. It maybe took a little over 2 hours or so including stops to get back to where we started. Once you get out of the touristy area, Guam is so pretty. The water is so blue. It really is so beautiful. The coastline is spectacular, but so are the mountains. As we drove along the west coast we happened upon where Magellan landed - well, at least a place near where he landed. It was a pretty sad monument, but none the less, something. We also stopped at Ft Soladad, an old Spanish fort.Views from Ft. Soladad. Water buffalo just outside Ft Soladad - we were told this was the fastest ride on Guam but neither myself or my co-counsel took the guy up on the offer. We kept driving along the coastline. Here are some the better pictures I took including Bear rock.

Our last stop was Two Lover's point where two star crossed lovers (a local man and a Spanish princess or some sort of royalty) jumped off the cliff to spend eternity together. Apparently besides holding hands when doing this, they also tied their hair together.
