Suwon City, Yongju Temple & Hwaseong Fortress

On Saturday Ben & I went to Yongju Temple and Hwaseong Fortress (in Suwon City). Before getting to the Temple, we stopped by a United Nations monument to the troops that fought there against the North Koreans in the first battle of the Korean War. Next was Yongju Temple (first picture) which was very similar to the other temples that we have seen. We were able to hear and see a prayer session and it was pretty cool. Then we went to Suwon City and had some beef bulgogi before going to Hwaseong Fortress. The fortress was built in the late 1700s and contained the palace of King Jeongjo. We first saw palace (second picture is entrance to that palace). After looking around there we say a traditional Korean performance with drums and dancers, the last performer being a tight rope walker. I found it interesting. The tight rope guy was definitely an entertainer and he had the whole crowd chanting something, kind of like a cheerleader getting the crowd hyped up before a game. After the performance we went to the NE part of Hwaseong Fortress where Ben and I experienced Korean Traditional Archery. It was $2 for 8 arrows and though I was expecting something more, it was ok. After all, Koreans are pretty awesome at archery. We then walked around a little bit and saw more of the fortress.
