DMZ take 2
On the 6th we all went on the DMZ tour. Last time Ben and I went it was cloudy and rainy. Thankfully on the 6th it was nice and clear. We actually got to see a lot more of North Korea this time. The order of the tour was a little different. We got to see the same video about the DMZ on the way up. It was done by the history channel and is excellent. First we went to an Observatory where you could see North Korea just by looking across the river. Kind of crazy that we can't just go visit, but that is what the Korean people have to live with each day. There are still families torn apart by the DMZ and there is of course hope that one day the two will be united. The pictures I took didn't come out very clear, but you get the gist.
In the observatory building they had a typical North Korean school room to look at.
We then saw the unification bell
and freedom bridge.
Next up was the Dorasan train station which is the last train station before going into North Korea.
Then we went to the third tunnel. It was one of the tunnels the North Koreans dug into South Korea so they could secretly transport their troops into South Korea. Last was the Joint Security Area including Panmujon.

This was my favorite part. There was one North Korean with binoculars looking at us. We went inside the building where talks are held between the North and South. We then went to a checkpoint to see more of North Korea including what is called Propaganda town.
It was a long day, but very interesting. A one of a kind tour that's for sure. Here is what you see when driving along the DMZ.
