Ganghwado Island

After 2 days of work it was the weekend again. Ben and I took his parents to Ganghwado Island, an island just west of the Seoul area. I could have spent days there just looking at all of the fortresses on this island, but we didn't have that kind of time. First we visited a palace though a lot of it was not there anymore and then part of the fortress wall. Next up was one of Korea's largest dolmen, We had seen some previously in Gochang. I for some reason really like them and I had never heard of them before I got to Korea. We then drove onto a ferry and took the ferry to Seongmodo island. On the ferry ride people would feed the flock of seagulls that followed hoping for food. Kind of scary, but luckily no one was pooped on. On that island we visited Bomunsa, one of the best temples Ben and I have been to in Korea. It was so ornate and interesting. It just had a lot going for it. There was a steep climb to the actual temple and then another climb up some stairs to a Buddha carving in the side of the rock. Well worth it for the views as well. We then took the ferry back and climbed up Manisan to see a stone alter which unfortunately was under construction. The view from here was pretty awesome too. We then visited another fortress (Ben liked the cannons) and went to a place were we could buy ginseng products. Then it was time to get back home so we could eat our prerace meal. It ended up being pizza which of course I love.
