China Trip - Day 8 (Chengdu and Shanghai)

What a frustrating day. We were picked up at 5:30am for our 7:40am flight. After waiting a little bit at the airport we found out that our flight was again delayed due to weather. We finally boarded the plane at around 9am, but didn't take off for another 40-60 minutes. There were a few English speakers on the plane with us who lived in Shanghai who kept calling back. They were told by family and friends that it was beautiful in Shanghai with no storms. About 2 hours or so into the flight we were told that the weather in Shanghai was still bad and that we were going to land at another airport. We landed in Nantong and stayed there for another 2 or so hours. We were even transported back to the terminal and given some crackers to hold us over. Again, through friends and family, Shanghai was not experiencing any weather issues. It was so frustrating. We finally arrived to Shanghai a little before 5pm. We were supposed to get there 17 hours earlier. Since we had lost the morning and the afternoon to explore, we had to rearrange what we were going to see and when. To save time we took the Maglev, a magnetic train that went over 300 km per hour. It was pretty cool. We then took a taxi to our hotel, checked in and went into the city to get some food. We had some yummy food in Shanghai. I have no idea what we really ate, but it all tasted good. We then stopped at Cold Stone for some ice cream, I love Cold Stone, and then went up in the Oriental Pearl Tower which had some great views of Shanghai at night. At the bottom level of the tower was this really neat and unique museum, the Shanghai municipal history museum. It was a really well put together museum. We then went and rode the tram in the Bund Sightseeing tunnel. That was a strange experience and nothing like we had imagined, but interesting. We finished our night with a walk along the bund which has a lot of buildings that were built in the 1920s and 1930s. It was a great walk at night with all the lights and a good way to end the night.
